Mom's first ever mission trip!

Organized by The Grant Family

Mom's supoprt letter
Dear Friends and Family,

Has your heart ever been broken by seeing all the suffering in the world? Have you wanted to do something tangible but didn't know what? I have, many times. Both Mike and Theresa have been on mission trips and I have watched them come home with changed hearts. It is time that I put my heart into God's hands and let him break it and re-shape it as His will desires.

I have committed to go to Haiti on a medical mission trip from February 19-27, 2010 and was wondering if you would like to "come along" by praying for me or supporting me financially.

Haiti has a population of about 9 million. Most Haitians make less than $2.00 per day. Child mortality is very high, with 1 in 8 children dying before they are 5. One third of Haitian children are chronically malnourished and lack basic clothing. The lack of shoes leads to cuts on their feet, which often lead to parasitic infections. These infections further strip their bodies of the little nutrition they do receive. There are about 1 million orphans. Four hurricanes in the last year have caused much devastation. Because of these problems, the number of orphans is increasing and access to medical care is very hard to come by.

Last February, our church's medical team treated about 600 children in 5 days. In July they treated about 750 in 5 days. They treated children for intestinal parasites, scabies, ringworm, impetigo, eczema, ear infections, upper respiratory infections, dental infections, malaria, lice and minor wounds.

When I go to Haiti next February, I will be joining a team of medical professional, church elders and other volunteers, going to several locations in the LesCayes area under the sponsorship of El Shaddai Ministries (www.ESMIhome.org). El Shaddai has already planted 42 churches in Haiti, well on their way to their goal of 100. Our purpose will consist of addressing medical needs at the orphanages that El Shaddai Ministries oversees, as well as to residents in the community surrounding those orphanages. El Shaddai provides personal care, Christian education and spiritual growth for over 2,000 orphans. They need to build more orphanages or enlarge the existing facilities. This is due to additional orphans in need of car, many as a result of the hurricanes, flooding and abandonment.

Would you please consider becoming one of my prayer partners and/or financial supporters to help those in Haiti? The cost of my trip is $2,000 and I am asking you to prayerfully consider helping me make this possible.

Please be praying for me and our team, that our work, through Jesus Christ, would touch the lives of many to glorify God.

Yours in Christ,

Laurie McLeod

The Lord has lead her!
My mother has felt the tug, she has heard the call and now for the first time in her life she is going to take the leap and go on a mission trip. Mom is going on a trip to Haiti with her church in Feb. 2010 and this page has been set up as a way to help her raise the money that she needs to go on this trip.
